Alcohol Offences: 12 drivers were issued the 3-day licence suspension for registering a warning (between 0.05 and 0.08 milligrams of alcohol). Tecumseh – 5 drivers, Essex – 4 drivers and Lakeshore – 3 drivers.
In addition 3 drivers were charged with impaired driving. Kingsville – 1, Tecumseh – 1, and Lakeshore – 1.
Driving under the influence of alcohol to any extent jeopardizes the lives of everyone who travels and shares our roads. The OPP supports any legislation that will make Ontario highways and roadways safer for drivers and pedestrians.
Essex:
01 May:
At 10:45 a.m. Essex OPP officers responded to the 40 block of Cherry Street in Essex. A witness reported a male suspect entered the backyard of this address and removed a whipper-snipper from the property. The suspect took off on foot southbound on the Chrysler Canada Greenway with the whipper-snipper in hand. The OPP K-9 Unit and members with the Emergency Response Team responded and tracked the suspect to an address on Poplar Street. The suspect was located working on a bicycle in the back yard, attempting to rig it up to put a whipper snipper motor on it. The whipper-snipper was located hidden under a garbage can. The suspect was subsequently arrested for theft under $5000 and possession of stolen property. The accused, a 14-year-old Amherstburg youth was diverted through the Windsor/Essex youth diversion program.
Essex OPP conducted a RIDE spot check on Talbot Street North and 1 driver was issued a 72 hour licence suspension for registering a “warn” between 50 and 80 milligrams of alcohol.
1st 3-day licence suspension issued in Essex County. At 12:10 a.m. on May 1st an Essex OPP officer was observing traffic on Talbot Street near Hopgood Side Road. A green pick-up truck was observed turning north onto Hopgood Side Road. The truck accelerated quickly. The vehicle was stopped on Lakeshore Road 205 and the driver, a 23-year-old man was issued a 3-day licence suspension for registering a warning (between .05 and .08 of alcohol).
02 May:
At approximately 4:05 p.m. an Essex OPP officer was traveling eastbound on County Road 20. The OPP officer observed a red and white Honda dirt bike, driving on the roadway on Iler Road heading northbound. The Honda traveled northbound through the stop sign without stopping. The vehicle’s rear tire spun causing the dirt bike to slide from side to side on the roadway. The dirt bike did not have a plate attached to it. The OPP officer activated all emergency equipment attempting to stop the Honda. The driver slowly pulled onto the shoulder. When the officer exited his police cruiser the dirt bike accelerated, crossed the street into the dirt lane near 2854 County Road 20 East. The driver appeared to lose control, as the dirt bike spun around upon hitting the gravel portion of the laneway. The driver fell off the dirt bike. The officer responded to the driver who only suffered scrapes to his hand and knee. The driver denied medical attention. The driver, a 23-year-old Essex man was arrested and charged for failing to stop when signalled. He was additionally charged with Careless Driving, Drive off-road vehicle with no insurance, Drive off-road vehicle – no number plate. Citizens are reminded that off-road vehicles are not permitted on Essex County OPP roadways!
03 May:
Around 1:00 a.m. Essex OPP stopped a Chevrolet Cavalier on County Road 23 near Talbot Street. The driver, a 21-year-old Essex man was issued a 3-day licence suspension for registering a warning on the roadside screening device. Additionally he was charged with G1 licence holder with Blood Alcohol above Zero.
At 1:26 a.m. a Dodge Ram pick-up was stopped on Medora Ave. East. Four male parties were in the vehicle. The driver, an 18-year-old Essex man registered a warning on a roadside screening device. He was issued a 3-day licence suspension. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
Kingsville:
01 May:
At 1:00 a.m. Kingsville OPP were notified of a 1995 GMC pick-up stuck in a field on Road 2 East. The responding OPP officers received further information that the vehicle was able to get out of the field and was fleeing the scene. OPP officers located the vehicle on Road 3 East and Graham Side Road. The driver, 22-year-old Korry MELLOW (22) of Leamington was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and drive with over 80 mgs of alcohol. He was released on a Promise to Appear with a court in Windsor on June 17th.
Kingsville OPP conducted a RIDE on County Road 34 West. Results: 200 vehicles checked, 1 roadside alcotest resulting in 1 – 72 hour licence suspension.

Lakeshore:
01 May:
On May 1st at 8:40 p.m. a Lakeshore resident was driving westbound on Caille Ave when he came across a male party laying facedown on the edge of the roadway beside a bicycle. The male had an abrasion on his forehead and appeared to be extremely intoxicated. Lakeshore Officers responded. The male party, a 34-year-old Lakeshore man was transported to Hotel Dieu with non-life threatening injuries.
02 May:
Lakeshore OPP conducted a RIDE on County Road 22. Results: 250 vehicles checked, 6 roadside alcohol tests, resulting in 1 3-day licence suspension and 2 provincial offence notices.
At 1:20 a.m. Lakeshore OPP responded to a single motor vehicle collision that had occurred on County Road 39 and Concession 1. The vehicle, a Chrysler Sebring had gone off the roadway and into the ditch. The lone driver, George LALIC (41) of Windsor was transported to Chatham-Kent Health Alliance with non-life threatening injuries. As a result of the investigation LALIC was arrested at the hospital for impaired operation of a motor vehicle. He was subsequently released on a promise to appear, charged with impaired driving and drive with over 80 mgs of alcohol. Court date in Windsor on June 10th.
A GPS unit was stolen from a vehicle parked near the 890 block of County Road 2. “Lock it or Lose it” and remove all property from your vehicles.
Shortly after 8:00 p.m. Lakeshore OPP located a 2005 black Dodge Ram pick-up on Melody Drive, Lighthouse Cove. As a result of the investigation the driver, a 45-year-old Lakeshore man was issued 6 Part 3 summons for court. Charged with: Operate motor vehicle with no insurance, drive motor vehicle no plates, fail to surrender permit for the motor vehicle, drive motor vehicle no currently validated permit, driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor and speeding 104 km/hr in a posted 50 km/hr zone. The vehicle was towed.
Tecumseh:
01 May:
Around midnight, a 22-year-old Cory BESSETTE of Windsor was stopped on County Road 11 while operating a Ford Ranger pick-up. As a result of the investigation BESSETTE was charged with impaired driving, drive with over 80 mgs of alcohol and possession of marihuana – under 30 grams. He was released on a Promise to Appear with a court date in Windsor on June 16th.
02 May:
A 31-year-old Windsor man was issued a 3-day licence suspension for registering a warning on a roadside screening device. Tecumseh OPP stopped a Dodge Dakota around 9:00 p.m. on Tecumseh Road and Lesperance Road.
03 May:
A 35-year-old Windsor man was issued a 3-day licence suspension after registering a warning on the roadside screening device. The vehicle was stopped on Lauzon Parkway around 2:40 a.m.
Tecumseh OPP received information of a male party passed out in a Ford Explorer at County Road 42 and County Road 19. The driver, a 24-year-old Windsor man was located and issued a 3-day licence suspension.
Tecumseh OPP received a report of a stolen 2000 GMC Sierra pick-up from a driveway near the 5680 block of County Road 11. The vehicle had been stolen sometime overnight.
Tecumseh OPP received a report of 2 male youths attempting to break into the pumping station near the 120 block of Centennial Drive. The youths were pounding on the lock attempting to break into the building. The youths are described: 1 was dressed in black, wearing a black hat; the other was wearing a white shirt. The officers arrived but the youths had fled the scene. The OPP officers noted graffiti on the building. At 9:20 p.m. Tecumseh OPP conducted a traffic stop of a CMC on County Road 46. The driver, a 48-year-old Lakeshore man was subsequently charged with driving without a licence and he was additionally issued a 3-day licence suspension for registering a warning on the roadside screening device.
04 May:
At 12:30 a.m. Tecumseh OPP received information of a possible impaired driver operating a Pontiac Soltice on County Road 22. The Pontiac was located on County Road 22 and the driver, a 27-year-old Tecumseh man was issued a 3-day licence suspension.
A 1994 red Dodge Shadow was stolen sometime overnight from an address near the 540 block of Harbourne Court.
An Essex OPP Traffic Officer narrowly averted being struck head-on by a Pontiac Sunfire. Around 8:30 a.m. on May 4th an unmarked Essex County OPP Traffic vehicle was traveling northbound on County Road 19 near Baseline Road when he observed a southbound black 2003 Pontiac Sunfire passing vehicles in heavy traffic. The Pontiac had passed two vehicles and was attempting to pass a third when the OPP officer had to make an evasive move and veer to the shoulder to avoid being struck head-on. The Pontiac was stopped and the female driver, a 25-year-old from Amherstburg was subsequently charged with Careless Driving. The driver stated she was in a hurry and thought she had enough time to pass the vehicles.
