On Saturday, January 24th, 2009 at 2:47 p.m. Essex County OPP Officers, Tecumseh Fire and EMS responded to motor vehicle collision on Highway 401 eastbound between the Concession 9 and County Road 17, in the Town of Tecumseh. The OPP Officers were advised that a pedestrian and transport truck were involved in the collision.
A red Freight transport truck was travelling eastbound on Highway 401 when the lone male driver, a 49 year old Mississauga man observed a black Ford Explorer parked on the south shoulder of Highway 401. Additionally the driver observed a lone male pedestrian standing behind the Explorer. The transport driver proceeded to move over into the passing lane. As the transport driver approached, he made every effort to avoid striking the pedestrian but unfortunately the impact occurred in the driving lane of Highway 401. The male pedestrian, a 34 year old Windsor man was transported to Hotel Dieu Hospital via ambulance where he was pronounced dead.
Highway 401 eastbound was closed for approximately 3.5 hours while the OPP Traffic Collision Investigator collected evidence from the scene.
