Essex County OPP Results from Canada Road Safety week  May 21 – 24:

• 5 drivers charged with impaired driving and drive with over 80 mgs
• 2 drivers issued 3-day licence suspensions
• 4 careless driving charges
• 1 driver charged drive while prohibited
• 8 driver charged with Fail to yield
• 272 speeding tickets were issued
• 14 failing to wear seatbelt tickets were issued
• 31.3 hrs for RIDE programs were conducted checking 1734 vehicles

Lakeshore:

On Monday May 24th, 2010 around 1:30 pm Lakeshore OPP responded to a complaint of an ad on Kijiji.  Police advised that a member of the public notified police of an ad offering a free 6 month old child.

Children’s Aid Society, Essex County Criminal Investigation Unit, and Lakeshore OPP are currently investigating the ad, but it is believed to be a hoax at this time.  The Kijiji ad has a generic address in Belle River.

Anyone with information about the person(s) responsible for posting the ad is asked to contact Essex County OPP Criminal Investigation Unit at 519-723-2491 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Lakeshore:

On Saturday May 22, 2010 around 2:00 pm Lakeshore OPP responded to a 2 vehicle collision north bound on Manning Rd.  Police advised that a Pontiac Grand Prix was stopped north bound waiting to turn left (west) onto Baseline Rd., when it was struck from behind by a Dodge Caravan.

Essex:

On Tuesday May 17th, 2010 from 7:30 am to 1:00 pm Essex OPP and the Ministry of Transportation conducted a traffic enforcement initiative in the Town of Essex. 

Officer’s and Agents targeted commercial motor vehicle issuing 31 documentation violations (including licence plate), 3 load violations (including unsafe), 6 equipment violations, and 4 seatbelt violations.

Provincial:

On Wednesday May 19th, 2010 around 2:30 pm Essex County OPP responded to a motor vehicle collision with a motorcycle eastbound on Hwy 3 east of Sexton Sd Rd.  Police advised that a male driver (47) from Oldcastle was on a 2004 Harley Davidson, stopped for traffic and was rear ended.  The female driver (19) from Windsor struck the stopped motorcycle.

Tecumseh:

On Thursday May 6th, 2010 at approximately 12:45 pm Tecumseh OPP responded to a Robbery in the 12000 block in the Town of Tecumseh. Essex County OPP Criminal Investigation Unit and Tecumseh OPP advised that a suspect(s) approached a female ripping a bag containing prescription narcotics from her grasp and immediately fled the scene driving a red pick up truck.
